FOSI Celebrates Safer Internet Day 2017

Today, FOSI celebrates Safer Internet Day. Every year we look forward to this opportunity to come together around the globe to share lessons, resources and best practices as we work to create a better Internet for our kids. Now more than ever, it is essential to empower young people to be good digital citizens and to “be the change” for a safer and more civil Internet.

In recognition of #SID2017, FOSI's CEO, Stephen Balkam, has published a new blog highlighting ways that people can unite to be the change they want to see online. FOSI’s work covers a wide spectrum of safety issues, and we encourage members of the online community to utilize our resources. In particular, the Good Digital Parenting initiative provides blogs, videos and accessible tools for parents that can be used in the home.

The Global Resource and Information Directory (GRID) provides online safety data from countries around the world, helping to capture the truly global nature of the Internet’s challenges and rewards. It is our goal to use these platforms and ongoing projects to help support youth as they explore and grow online and unite for a better Internet, as well as the advocates, academics, and innovators who are leading the way.

FOSI is a proud partner and participant of the Safer Internet Day USA event at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, and a supporter of the great work of Europe’s Safer Internet Centers. Stephen Balkam will also provide a keynote at the Digital Citizenship Dialogue Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next week.

We look forward to learning about everyone’s achievements over the past year and sharing successes. Safer Internet Day is always an uplifting annual moment for us to reflect on the efforts of the safety community, to see how far we’ve come and how much further we can go as a united front.
