Overview
On September 10th the Family Online Safety Institute held a screening of “Cyber-Seniors – Connecting Generations”, a moving documentary that chronicles a group of senior citizens as they learn how to become more connected online through the assistance of teenage mentors. Cyber-Seniors draws attention to the vast knowledge gap that exists between senior citizens and youth when it comes to the use of technology, and also serves as a wonderful example of the great things that can happen when we make the effort to help connect the under-connected members of our communities.
Following the screening, FOSI’s CEO, Stephen Balkam, conducted a Q&A with the film’s producer, Brenda Rusnak. Stephen and Brenda discussed some of the difficulties faced while filming the documentary, how the film has impacted access to technology for seniors, and Brenda’s hopes for how the film may continue to draw attention to this issue.
