Welcome to our Digital Citizens Program

Helping Kids, Teens, and Young Adults Thrive Safely Online
FOSI’s Digital Citizens Program provides kids, teens, and young adults with the tools and knowledge they need to navigate the digital world with confidence. Through strategic community events and hands-on educational resources, we’re empowering the next generation of digital citizens to stay safe, think critically, and engage responsibly online.

Safer Internet Month – June 2025

Safer Internet Month is a global effort dedicated to promoting awareness about online safety and digital well-being. Throughout the month, FOSI highlights the importance of creating a safer, more positive online environment for families, schools, and communities. Join us for engaging social media challenges, insightful resources, and interactive in-person events designed to empower everyone—from kids and teens to parents and educators—with the tools to stay safe online:

To mark Internet Safety Month, FOSI hosted the Internet Safety Festival on Sunday, June 29 at Mitchell Park in Washington, D.C. Families joined us for a fun, hands-on event featuring free food, kids’ activities, and interactive booths from nonprofits and tech companies. Attendees explored tools and tips for safer online experiences, heard from digital safety experts, and connected with others committed to supporting healthy digital habits at home.

Thanks to everyone who made the day a success!

This Pride Month, the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) partnered with Thurst, 801, and Shaw’s Tavern to share practical online safety resources with LGBTQ+ young adults in the spaces they already know and trust. By placing our materials in these local spots, we aimed to meet young people where they are—offering quick, accessible tips on protecting their privacy, navigating digital relationships, and staying safe online. Together, we’re creating safer, more informed digital experiences that celebrate and support LGBTQ+ communities year-round.

As part of our Digital Citizens Program, FOSI partnered with families to create a TikTok series that brings honest, everyday conversations about online safety to life. These short segments offer a real-world look at how parents and kids are navigating the digital world together—with all its challenges, questions, and teachable moments.

Follow the series on TikTok and join the conversation around raising safe, confident digital citizens.
