WASHINGTON, D.C. — January 14, 2026 — The Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) today announced the appointment of Eric Ebenstein, Senior Director of Public Policy at TikTok, as Chair of its Board of Directors.

Ebenstein brings more than a decade of experience in public policy, regulatory strategy, and public-private collaboration across the technology, energy, and innovation sectors. In his role at TikTok, he leads government affairs for the United States, Canada, and Latin America, working closely with trust and safety, public policy, and product teams to support teen protections, family-focused features, and responsible platform governance.

“As a father of two, I think a lot about how to navigate such a digital world with my own children,” said Ebenstein. “Digital safety and well-being have never been more important. FOSI plays a unique role in bringing together industry, nonprofits, researchers, and policymakers to advance practical, collaborative solutions that make the internet safer for families. I’m honored to build on that foundation as Board Chair and support the organization’s next phase of impact.”

TikTok has partnered with FOSI since 2019, collaborating on research, resources, and initiatives designed to empower parents, teens, and educators. Most recently, the two co-developed the Digital Safety Partnership for Families, a practical guide to help families have ongoing, meaningful conversations about their online experiences and build positive digital habits together.

“Eric’s leadership, policy expertise, and deep commitment to family well-being make him an exceptional choice to serve as FOSI’s Board Chair,” said Stephen Balkam, Founder and CEO of FOSI. “His experience working at the intersection of technology, safety, and public trust will be invaluable as we continue to expand FOSI’s impact in an increasingly complex digital landscape.”

Looking ahead to 2026, Ebenstein plans to focus on advancing digital literacy for teens and parents, supporting thoughtful and age-appropriate product design, and strengthening cross-sector collaboration. “No single entity can address online safety challenges alone,” he said. “Progress depends on partnership, and FOSI is uniquely positioned to convene stakeholders and turn shared goals into meaningful action.”
