Mar España Martí

Director, Control Z Platform

María del Mar España Martí is a qualified lawyer. She has specialized in public policy advocacy and human rights for more than 37 years. Throughout her professional career, she has worked at several institutions, including the Spanish Ombudsman and the Institute for Women. 

She led the Spanish Data Protection Agency for 10 years. During her tenure, she promoted measures at the European level to safeguard privacy and the health of minors in the digital environment, as well as initiatives in Latin America as an active member of the Iberoamerican Data Protection Network.

She holds a University Degree in Law from the ICADE (Pontifical University of Comillas), is a University Expert in the management of not-for-profit entities (Luis Vives Foundation) and holds a Master’s in International Protection of Human Rights (University of Alcalá de Henares – Madrid). 

She is also a specialist in health and wellbeing, holding a Master’s degree in Mindfulness and Health Research from the Complutense University of Madrid, and is trained as an Iyengar yoga teacher.

She currently leads Platform Control Z,, an initiative that has pioneered an unified voice in Spain by bringing together the country’s leading medical and psychological societies as well as major third sector organizations and media groups.

She was a member of the expert committee established by Spain’s Ministry for Children and Youth to develop digital environments and served as an expert on the European Commission’s Special Panel on Online Child Safety.
