Rukiya Bonner is the Director of BBB National Program’s Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) where she oversees the operation of the self-regulatory body. CARU helps companies comply with laws and guidelines that protect children under age 13 from deceptive or inappropriate advertising and ensure that, in an online environment, children’s data is collected and handled responsibly. Rukiya is an experienced media attorney, and standards and compliance expert. Prior to joining BBB National Programs, she served as the Director of Standards and Practices for Warner Bros. Discovery, where she created strategies and solutions for potentially problematic content and was responsible for the approval process for commercials targeted toward children. Rukiya has well over a decade of experience in brand protection and children’s commercial clearance. She is passionate about the work, and as a mother, fully understands how impressionable children can be. A native of Washington, DC, Rukiya received her B.A. from Spelman College and her J.D. from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, MO.
