On May 16th, FOSI hosted a webinar on international online safety policy as part of its FOSI Briefs the Hill series. The expert panel included:

- Charlotte Aynsley, Digital Safeguarding Consultant, UK
- Landon Klein, California State Assembly’s Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection, US
- Andrew Zack, FOSI (Moderator)
The panelists discussed current policy efforts to improve online safety including the Digital Services Act in the EU, the Age Appropriate Design Code and Online Safety Bill in the UK, and the Age-Appropriate Design Code Act in California. Beyond these policy proposals, the conversation touched on the importance of age assurance, thoughtful considerations in the ed tech and student privacy space, establishing privacy and human rights as a baseline policy, recommendations for Congress, and how to account for future technologies in present-day policies.

Asha Allen
Asha Allen serves as Advocacy Director for Europe, Online Expression & Civic Space at CDT Europe Office in Brussels, where she leads our work on issues at the intersection of online expression, civic engagement, and technology.
Charlotte Aynsley
Charlotte has a broad range of experience in the field of digital safeguarding - for 10 years she led Becta's advice and support to Government, local authorities and schools on keeping children safe online. She also worked with Dr Tanya Byron on her review of Safer Children in a Digital World - leading the implementation and co-ordination of the education recommendations in the Review as part of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS).
Landon Klein
Landon Klein is a Senior Consultant for the California State Assembly Committee on Privacy & Consumer Protection. In this position, Landon analyzes and advises on legislation concerning issues primarily related to data privacy, surveillance, cybersecurity, social media, and artificial intelligence.
Andrew Zack
Andrew Zack is the Policy Manager for the Family Online Safety Institute, supporting policy and research work relating to online safety issues, laws, and regulations.
