The Trevor Project

Director of Law and Policy

Casey Pick is currently the Director of Law and Policy for The Trevor Project, the leading suicide prevention and mental health organization serving LGBTQ young people. She leads The Trevor Project’s work to advance state and federal policies that support LGBTQ young people in crisis, educating policymakers and the public about LGBTQ young people/mental health issues. She also writes and coordinates amicus briefs, collaborates with state and local advocates, and testifies in support of legislation to protect LGBTQ young people.

In particular, Casey has taken a leading role among LGBTQ advocates in addressing the subject of youth mental health and safety as it relates to social media and young people’s online activity, arguing for a nuanced approach that results in reasonable regulation of technology platforms without hindering marginalized communities’ ability to access vital community and specialized resources through the internet.

As a skilled legal and legislative analyst, subject-matter expert, communicator, and advocate, Casey is a problem-solver with a proven track-record of working productively with stakeholders who are separated by broad political and ideological divides. She has a record of crafting innovative and pragmatic policy solutions to complex social issues, including LGBTQ rights, mental health, religious liberty, immigration, firearms, and technology/social media.

In recent years, Casey has represented The Trevor Project and LGBTQ community interests in high-level policy discussions, including the LGBTQI+ Working Group of the Civil Rights Division at the United States Department of Justice, as part of the NCAA Mental Health Advisory Group, and at the National Governors Association Chair’s Initiative Roundtable.

Casey’s work has been featured in CNN, Associated Press, The New York Times, NPR, and MSNBC. Casey holds a bachelor’s degree in Government from Claremont McKenna College and a juris doctorate from the UCLA School of Law. She currently resides in Alexandria, VA.
